Good evening Bucknuts subscribers! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the night and tomorrow.
1) The Buckeyes’ spectacular recruiting roll had a slight lull with no commitment announcements between May 6 (punter Jesse Mirco) and May 23. But Ryan Day, Mark Pantoni and the staff got back on the board Sunday when Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro cornerback Denzel Burke went public with his commitment to Ohio State. We had five articles on Burke’s commitment including the breaking story, the impact, Twitter reacts, Burke going in-depth on how he surprised both Ryan Day and Kerry Coombs when he told them he was committing, and 247Sports West region recruiting insider Blair Angulo’s article with a good comparison for Burke.
Burke had actually given Coombs and Day the good news about a week before he actually announced his decision. On Saturday night Angulo was the first to Crystal Ball Burke to Ohio State, and it didn’t take long for rumblings to start circulating that Burke was likely on the verge of being a Buckeye.
Burke was ready to announce on Saturday evening, but did not have a graphic ready. When he had one ready he then announced publicly on Sunday afternoon (ET) that he had selected Ohio State over his other four finalists, USC, Oregon, Washington and Colorado.
Burke was one of three defensive backs I had been talking about for months in regards to being a Buckeye, the other two being safety Derrick Davis Jr. and cornerback Jaylin Davies. And that leads into item No. 2….
